Cary, Gwen Louise This has been a wonderful learning experience. I spent the first week oblivious to all the discussions going on – which was learning experience in itself. Yes, people in your online courses can be reasonably intelligent and yet totally lost.

When I found them I discovered that the discussions were very thought provoking and most of the participants actively followed and added to the forums. The chats were also a good experience although I wished we could have been more directed in our discussions. There was so much of the content area that I would have liked to have exchanged ideas about. Actually though, even with a bit of rambling I always came away with new ideas.

It was my first experience doing a group project online and I learned a lot from the experience. Of course, that has a lot to do with the fact that I was in a great group.

It was also my first experience of actually working with a wiki which has been a good experience.

The overall course was well organized and conducted, thank you Dafne and Teresa for all your work. You’ve introduced me to Tapped in, wiki, many exercise sites, and various online teaching dynamics. It was a very positive experience

Cornwell, SteveFirst, I want to thank both of you for giving us a great class. I learned so many things not the least of which was leaning/seeing how to run a successful class online. That may have been the most important aspect for me, even though seeing all the sites, experiencing the chats, hearing about software, etc. etc. etc. was great.

Here are a few comments (mostly minor) that may help you think about the next class.

1) I suggest not having separate threads for advanatages and disadvantages of online learning (wk 2); instead let us respond to the pros and cons in one thread.

2) Pick at least one time for a chat that does not have those of us in Asia having to participate at 10 pm or 11 pm For example, UTC 12 noon or 1 pm has some people getting up at 8 or 9 am but allows those of us in Japan to do the chat at 9 or 10 pm.

3) The final lesson plan assignment was a little confusing to me. I was thinking in terms of a lesson plan which would use online activities not a lesson plan that was a homepage/embedded in a homepage. I hope what I did fits what you were thinking about. I guess I was thinking in terms of a lesson plan that you print out and look at but which refers students to a set of online activities that they would do...

But again the course was great and totally the opposite of a course taken earlier this year where the week-to-week feedback was much less (both in quality and quantity) than I had hoped for (even though the instructor was very knowledgable.)

I hope I am not misusing these phrases from http://www.etailersdigest.com/resources/saythanks.htm

Muito Obrigado com Voce

Un millón de gracias

Fawzi, HalaFeedback about the course?

•I liked exploring the vocabulary and grammar sites. I'll definitely make use of some of them in the future.

•The course was well organized, graded and rich in material.

•This course helped me get a good idea of just how much material is out there online for ESL/EFL teaching and learning.

Feedback about Desire2Learn?

Great platform, yes, but I hope to add a synchronous chat room and a feature of being able to access the course material in the future, instead of our "copy and paste" after the end of each PP course. Maybe a place to add a voice email, a MyChnigo window!

Feedback about the moderators?

•Thank you Daf and Tere for your helpful, constant, supportive quick and helpful replies .You will both remain my inspiring angles! Thanks also for my classmates from whom I learned a lot! I hope to meet you again in PP200!And don't forget to join us at Becoming a Webhead 2007!We will be waiting for all of you. You will never regret it!

•Thank you sooooo much my dearest tutors for this rich course.

hugs,

Hala

Fernandez, GailPhoto hereI found the course interesting and useful. It took me the whole course to get a handle on how to use a Wiki, but now I'm feeling more confident -- especially when I know that I can get help!

I enjoyed collaborating on the analysis of grammar and vocabulary sites. I had never done it before and found it interesting. I have ideas about how to collaborate more effectively.

I'm sorry, but I only made it to one on-line chat. Again, it was the first time that I've IM'd. I would have liked the chat to stay a bit more focused on the topic.

Overall, I tried many new things in the course. While I have a long way to go to become proficient at on-line teaching, I see that I can do it!

Thank you, Daf and Theresa.

Hunter, MoiraI have thoroughly enjoyed this course and especially the pace. There has been a lot to look at and 'play' with, and a lot to reflect upon too. My sincere regret as an online facilitator is that I got a bit bogged down with other work at one moment and then fell ill.

I am really happy that the course has not been suddenly closed like others in the PP certificate programme and has been left open. The fact that Daf and Teresa have created the wiki with all its content was also an excellent idea.

I hadn’t originally decided to take PP104 but I knew I would be in the good hands of two very experienced online facilitators and I was not disappointed at all and would highly recommend this course.

The structure of the course was clear from the beginning, with nicely paced discovery learning and reading and ongoing discussions. The online presence of both Daf and Teresa was very impressive, with both giving prompt replies to queries and additional input. I personally was particularly impressed by Teresa’s input after some of us had decided to give up with Spellmaster and when I have the time, I will go back to the instructions so clearly given by Teresa.

I have had lots of time to reflect upon the different usage of the tools for my own needs and my institutional needs, and I was happy with my final project which was for both my colleagues and online self-study for undergraduate first years. Colleagues are already playing with wikis and the tools for their ‘tailored’ and personalised versions.

Thank you both very, very much !!!

Malupa-Kim, MiralynnThank you very much, Dafne and Teresa for a wonderful on-line class experience. You two are the most personable instructors I have ever had on line. I enjoyed learning many things about incorporating technology in vocabulary and grammar lessons. One thing I really liked about your course was the workload. It was not overwhelming at all, and this gave me time to be able to explore more about the suggested sites and activities you had presented to us. Keep up the good work! I hope I find my soulmate in teaching! I also liked the chat sessions, even though I had to wake up at 7:00 AM to participate. I understand that it is really hard to find a convenient time for everyone, but perhaps we can try having it on different times. Thanks again so much. I hope to meet both of you f2f!
Mamoun, AnitaPhoto hereThis course has been a fabulous learning experience for me! Dafne and Teresa, you both have a vast wealth of knowledge and experience, and you are extremely generous in sharing it with your students. I was especially impressed with the learning environment that you created---that "feeling" that's so hard to explain. You were supportive and I, honestly, was never embarrassed to ask a question, even as I stumbled along, trying to figure out something I thought the others had already conquered. You gave the support when needed and let us try to figure something out when you knew it would be a good learning experience for us. Example: A few minutes ago, when I was sweating (literally!) about not being able to open a link in my lesson plan, only to discover I was missing one l'il ole dot in the link! Wheew! Discussion threads stressed me out sometimes. I had trouble keeping up. I look forward to reading them over the next couple of days.

It was wonderful to learn about all these great sites, and now I'll spend the next year (at least!) learning more and experimenting with them. The chats were a very positive experience---you got me out of bed at 6:30 on a Saturday morning for a cup of coffee before the chat, but it was a luxury to connect with such great people while I was in the comfort of my home and in comfy clothes. I'd like a chat with more of everybody speaking and exchanging ideas.

I would like to send a great big thank you to a couple of super professionals, Daf and Tere! And a big thank you to all my classmates for contributing freely and positively to this learning experience! I'm a Webhead now, so this is not good-bye...it's seeya later...

Newgarden, KristiPhoto hereI am hurrying to write this because of time constraints, so I'm sorry if it is brief and doesn't adequately communicate how satisfied I am with this course. I have been so impressed, first of all, with the teaching. Both of you have been so supportive and thorough with your responses. It is so helpful to see really good examples of online teachers so that we have something to aspire to.

A few of my favorite things that I am already using or planning to use in the future: Diigo, the wiki, Quia, the reviews everyone did of the practice sites, the WebWizard.

Because I am a program director, I am concerned with teacher development and transmitting what I have learned to teachers in my program. This course inspired me to create a Teacher Tech Talk blog so that I can capture my ideas or reference new tools and put the information out to teachers quickly and continually.

Thank you everyone for the time you have put in to the discussions and projects. Thank you teachers for orchestrating a very rich and rewarding course

Proctor, WindyPhoto here

This course is a great example of how we can incorporate blended learning into the classroom. Dafne and Teresa have been great models of loop input. I also appreciate the resources that have been generated by everyone in the class.

I had heard of people talking about using ‘wiki’ before but had never seen it. This was a nice chance to experience it for myself. It’s something I’ll definitely look into. This course has encouraged me to experiment with new technology and software.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this class even though I didn’t have a chance to participate in the chats. Thanks for the lesson plan ideas:)

Rink, LoriDaf and Tere,

First of all, I would like to thank you for 1) the quick responses to the discussion posts 2) explicitly explaining the grading system 3) updating the grades throughout the course 4) and offering up many different approaches to chatting and forums.

For each of the on-line courses I have taken through TESOL, I have been given a wealth of information, and yours was no exception. Thank you for introducing me to resources for including a concordance in lesson planning; that was one of the goals I stated in my K-W-L chart. I’m also happy to have had this opportunity to explore a wiki and to see some of its applications in teaching. Most of all, I’m glad to have been introduced to many more programs and toys (tools) which I will need to explore further.

Unfortunately, I often feel overwhelmed by it all, and I have learned that I am slow to catch on to new programs as well as find it difficult to make the time that is necessary for fully exploring them. This, however, is not a reflection of your teaching, but rather directed towards the length of time for the class (and perhaps my time-management skills). I apologize if my final project seems sophomoric in its simplicity; however, I have learned more about Hot Potatoes, LessonPro, and html code in the process. Unfortunately, I believe I spent more time on exploring the technology than focusing on the pedagogy of the lesson plan, and I know this must be changed before I would use this lesson with my students. I also apologize about not showing up for the chats; I fully intended to do so, but the timing never quite worked for me. If I had, I would have felt more of a connection to the on-line class, but you both certainly created a feel of community just within your replies and encouragement.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Lori Rink

Rosa, JosephPhoto hereRight away I was impressed with the clarity of the syllabus and the tasks to be completed. Thank you for being so well-organized! (Have I said that before somewhere in these pages?!) I also very much appreciate your thoughtful (and gentle) feedback at all times during the class. I'm disappointed I was able to make only one chat but am looking forward to opportunities on Webheads and other interesting chats out there. Your Links page is easy to navigate and not cluttered with links, ad infinitum. I look forward to seeing you in Seattle! Muito 'brigado a voces; Muchas gracias a Ustedes!

Spiri, JohnIt was nice that this course had a somewhat different flavor from previous courses in this certificate program. I made some excellent discoveries, especially WordChamp, which i have been using extensively for my own study of Japanese, partly to learn Japanese, and partly to test for future use with students. The emphasis on chats would have been nice if I'm not such a wimp! It was tough to participate at 11pm or midnight, and my Mac prevented me from doing so when I did get online. The extensive use of wikis was a new twist; I like wikis a lot and had been experimenting with them. I have, at the same time, done some soul-searching about online study because my classes have not been performing so well in their online class. For example, some waste time on email, or Japanese websites. That's tough to control. The class is two hours long, and I'm feeling like it's too long to go without verbal interaction. I'll definitely try to make adjustments because I remain convinced of the huge potential of online learning. Finally, as always, I have the nagging feeling I could have contributed more, read more, and made more comments, but as with most of my classmates, I'm sure, it's tough in the middle of a busy semester. So, thanks to all for your comments and contributions!
